mrs. kennedy goes abroad
01.24.2011
Several weeks ago, I posted the most lovely watercolor of Jacqueline Kennedy sleeping in D. Porthault linens by artist Jacqueline Duhême. Little did I know that the Duhême watercolor of Mrs. Kennedy is actually one of many! The artist became acquainted with the Kennedys during Jack’s tenure as president. Later, she was invited to travel with The First Lady on her legendary state visits to Rome, India and Pakistan. In 1998, Duhême published Mrs. Kennedy Goes Abroad, a book of her watercolors documenting a handful of the Kennedy’s international state visits. It's a must-have for any library! Although it’s hard to choose a favorite illustration, I think I like the portrait of Jacqueline dining with Queen Elizabeth II the best (second to the last photo). Isn’t it positively divine?!
