i heart cat eyes
02.27.2012

I’ve been trying my hardest to avoid it, but I think it’s time for me to get glasses! My eyesight, though still pretty good, just isn’t as sharp as it used to be. Ooh, the perils of aging. I’m obsessed with cat eye spectacles (I wear cat eye sunglasses everyday already - see here :) and would like to find a good vintage pair but don’t have the slightest clue as to where to begin. Know of any great vintage eyewear websites? Etsy vendors? Reasonably priced eyewear boutiques in the Los Angeles area? I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! xx

That photo of Marilyn is simply divine! I've gotten into wearing my cat eyes recently–I found them in a teeny estate shop and had my optomtorist put my lenses in them!
Hi There,
I love Cat Eye glasses too. If you are looking for modernized Cat Eyes, Loree Rodkin makes beautiful ones. I have also bought a few vintage pairs from this easy seller: http://www.etsy.com/shop/marketsquareus?section_id=10286042. He has a nice selection of unworn styles. A word of warning...vintage specs tend to run narrow, so make sure to check the width for your face...I made a mistake with regards to that once. I also think this seller has some nice things: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Sorocco and she models them so you can see their true size. Good luck in your search. Can't wait to see what you select.
Rayban makes a beautiful reproduction cat eye frame for something a little more durable. I think blogger Keiko Lynn's adorable glasses are from Rayban. If you decide not to go vintage, that's what I would try!
FALLON! I recently got glasses for reading/computer use. They are suchhhhh a low prescription but they make a world of difference and my eyes don't strain after a full day of staring at a comp :)
I got Chanels and everyone one at my old job told me I looked like a hipster... I say go for cateyes if that's what you love! Glasses are kind of like the coolest accessory ever :)
xx
I would not reccomend buying a pair of vintage until you find out if your optometrist can make custom lenses for them. Good luck with your search! I love the look too!

Ahh! Thanks so much for the thoughts / suggestions.
Rachel, I actually DID try on a pair of Ray Bans today and LOVED them! The shape was perfect. And thanks to your suggestion, that is what I'll probably end up with :)
Molly - I'm sure you look lovely in glasses and I'd probably be so jealous of your Chanels!
Jacqueline - Thanks for the tip. I think I'll end up with a new pair but they fit wonderful AND an optomotrist will be able to work with them. Where would I be without all of my readers' wonderful advice?
Try Shurons - I'm about a to buy a pair and have heard nothing but good things. They've been making frames in america since the 1800s and started several eyewear trends over the years! they only have a few that are cat eye esque but i love them: http://www.shuron.com/nulady.htm
You simply must go to www.otticacarraro.com Italian vendor of the most beautiful eyeglasses no hardware showing, bright colors, some available in opaque
