a letter from picasso

I find personal letters from brilliant artists to be so fascinating! Above is a note from Pablo Picasso to his dear friend, Gertrude Stein. I wish I could decipher his french scrawl well enough to read it-- I’m dying to know what he had to say. If you’re interested, I posted a letter from Matisse to the blog back in July.. it is equally as beautiful, and just as indecipherable. Five dollars to the person who can translate either!

This is what I've come up with:

Picasso

English:
You will see. Each day is more difficult and where do you stay calm? I am in the middle of making a [home] with a little girl. They have flowers in their baskets and beside them are two [eggs] and wheat. Something like that.
My best wishes to you and your sister. From your friend

No need for the $5. It's fun to read these words!

That handwriting would give a forensic specialist a run for his money, although Jordana came up with exactly what I did!

This is so cool. I've come to think that all artists have interesting handwriting. His, albeit messy, is so beautiful!

Picasso.

Remember Picasso was spanish and probably misspelled in french. Probably home=homme (man) and veoufets=veoufs (oxes).
