want of the day
01.10.2012
Today’s “want of the day” is uncharacteristically tangible :) Chanel’s Allure has been my mother’s signature fragrance for years. I tried it while I was home for Christmas and totally fell in love. It’s so yummy and wears quite well (though isn’t it funny how much a scent can change depending on the wearer?). I rarely wear perfume, so this purchase will be a big step for me! Out of curiosity, what was your first perfume? Mine was YSL's Babydoll - I bought it in France when I was in my early teens (mainly because I liked the hot pink packagaing). Excited to hear your answers! x

GAP Dream, in 6th grade. It was SO popular. I think if I smelled it today I would die of terrible puberty memories!! Ha.
I spent a few years with Chanel Allure, and now have Chanel Mademoiselle (it was my wedding perfume). Red Door was my big perfume in the 1980s! My mother has only worn Dior Hypnotic Poison for years. It really suits her.
My perfume of choice is "in the library" by CB I Hate Perfume. It is a little bit leathery, a little bit woodsy and slightly sweet, but not sticky-sweet. Basically it smells like old books (in a great way), and I love it.

That is an excellent question! I think my very first fragrance ever was Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, back in 5th or 6th grade. Literally EVERY girl in my class had a bottle. Then, like Kate, I moved on to GAP Dream!!! Ha!!
Mine was an inexpensive but popular perfume for young girls called Babe. It was found a drug stores and smelled like baby powder with a hint of floral.
It was Le Belles de Ricci by Nina Ricci. Like you, I fell for the packaging. I was lucky it smelled good too!
Have worn Issey Miyake L'eau d'Issey Florale Eau de Toilette for years. Very light. But I have kept an empty Chanel bottle on my dressing table just as long...for I too am a sucker for packaging. A class bottle!
I remember GAP dream! All my friends had it, but I never made the purchase. Remember their cloud fragrance?! Ooh, those were the days haha.
Girls, your comments are making me feel like I need to step my game up! New Years Resolution: build a perfume wardrobe :)

Since I was 19y/o I have been wearing "Aliage" by Estee Lauder........I am now 62 y/o and still enjoying it!! It is not an advertised fragrance, but still available if you ask for it at the frangrance counter :) It is light, sporty with notes of green and citrus! Everyone always comments they like its' fresh, clean aroma....
Try it!! :)
Babydoll was my very first perfume, too! That grapefruit-candy scent is irresistible to young girls, I guess!
My 1st and all time fav is Miss Balmain by Pierre Balmain, I have to tell you my 2nd fav which my mum bought for me Empriente by Courreges. I am a perfume (and lipstick) fiend! Enjoy your blog.
It's one of my scents I love! Wear it in the winter & Chanel Chance in the summer.
For some reason I've only ever worn Ralph Lauren fragrances. I started with Romance, then moved onto Blue, then to Ralph Lauren Style (which I really loved but was sadly discontinued) and now I'm back on Romance! I'd love to make the switch to Chance Chanel, soon... I just love the way it smells!
I'd love to have this Chanel’s Allure on my collection also. I'd be so happy if someone will give me this Chanel as a gift! I don't know what my reaction would be!
My first fragrance was Champagne by Germaine Monteil. My Mother let me pick it out from the fragrance counter when I was 10 years old. I still have one of the lovely black glass bottles...and wish I had some of the scent! In regard Chanel fragrances, Coco is my favorite. It is so evocative of fall and winter. I tried Allure and it did not wear well on me. I had a friend who wore it and she smelled heavenly!
I love everything from Chanel. It's not just the name it's all about the quality. Happy New Year!
My first perfume was Chanel Allure, because, like you, it was what my mother wore for years. :) I still wear it, along with Chanel Chance. She has since moved on to Bvlgari, perhaps not wanting to be aromatically associated with her daughter?
The first perfume which I bought myself was Boss Woman but I now wear Miss Dior Cherie.
