tom ford's return to womenswear
09.17.2010
I find the top-secret debut of Tom Ford’s first womenswear line in over six years to be endlessly fascinating. Ford, who detests our culture’s “need for immediacy,” decided to hold a private viewing of his collection for 100 of Fashion’s most influential journalists and editors; no photographers, save for his own camera crew, were invited.
His was no ordinary show. He chose to use women who are influential to him to model his collection, personally introducing them by name as they walked down the runway. While photos (and a video) of the line will not be released until December, the headshots of Ford’s models somehow leaked to the press. As you can see in the image above, the lineup included the likes of Daphne Guinness, Beyoncé, and Karen Elston… a star-studded event, if I do say so myself! Cathy Horyn of the New York Times reports that the collection included, “...sharp pantsuits in black silk or a leopard pattern… sheer blouses… and stilettos with ankle ties and seamed black stockings.” Swoon! Word on the street is that Ford’s collection will appear in an editorial in the January issue of Vogue Paris… are you excited? I certainly am :)

Ahh! This is great, I thought this was so cool too. And I looooove the LA photos you've posted...what a fun getaway. Safe trip back tomorrow, XOXO!
Definitely! What a tease! We need something new, a fresh air, and we can count on Tom Ford for that. He always does the unexpected. I don't mean only couture, but the way he thinks and does things. (Think for instance of his approach of perfumery, M7 for Saint Laurent was totally unexpected, shocking, out of the crowd)
I don't know if his creativity for women's wear will follow this line, but what I do know is that he always tends to say - "what I do is different, I'm unique, and I work for that". We don't know nothing about the patterns but the manners make a good introduction. "No photographers, slow down, I want to keep your attention: let me introduce you..."(reminds me this scene of "how to marry a millionaire", the défilé, remember?)
To be modern, what it is? Doing something new or doing something unexpected? It surely is a complete thing.
