the princess goes on stage

I came across this stunning photo of Princess Lee Radziwill on the cover of Life magazine at an antique shop last week. The accompanying article, titled Girls Who Have Everything Aren't Supposed to Do Anything, is fascinating! It was published after Lee made her theatrical debut at the Ivanhoe Theater in Chicago as Tracy Lord in The Philadelphia Story. My favorite quote: "To play Tracy, Lee worked up the role with her coach in London, studying diligently and making periodic hops over to Paris for fittings with Yves St. Laurent, who designed her costumes for the play." I would have never thought that Princess Lee had the slightest interest in acting. But then again, if Yves St. Laurent was to design my costumes for my theatrical debut, I would be on the stage in a heartbeat!
P.S. If you like Life magazine photos, Kate at The Neo-Traditionalist has some great ones in her archives!

Neither did I! Apparently, the play opened to dismal reviews.. But at least she had the courage to do it, right?
