jackie in spain
03.22.2010
I was ecstatic this weekend when I found the above issue of Life featuring Jackie Kennedy on a trip to Spain in April, 1966. Even more so when I realized that the spread included pictures of she and Princess Grace! Apparently, the two did not get along so well. A caption in the article reads,"The Grimaldis, the official guests of honor at the Seville fair, had been conspicuously miffed by all the attention they were not getting, and matters reached a head at the ball-- in the castle of the Duke of Medinaceli-- when the Monaco couple were nearly bowled over by the guests' rushing to see the late-arriving Jackie.." I find this so interesting-- for some reason, I was previously under the impression that the two had a fine relationship. The article makes no note as to the reason for her trip, other than that it was "a week's holiday." I believe it was one of her first official outings since the death of JFK nearly two and a half years earlier. She looks great, don't you think?
