switch it up

I’m a details person (though as my mom says, I definitely don’t look it! Ha). By nature, I’m immediately drawn to the little eccentricities about a person or home that might perhaps go unnoticed by others. This, of course, is why I care so much about seemingly silly things like lightswitches. Are unique light switch covers necessary? Hardly. But they are quirky and fun. Above are two that I can't get out of my head... I think I need both of them :) Rose decoupage switch plate cover by John Derian (available next month) and tin switch plate cover found via my favorite pinner, Ms. Blythe Candace.

want of the day

Someday, I wish to have an entire gallery wall dedicated to the artist Hugo Guinness à la Kate & Andy Spade. Mr. Guinness’ simple prints have earned the approval everyone from Rita Konig to John Derian (who sells his prints and products in his famed Manhattan storefront). If you’re a big fan, click here to see another fantastic Guinness gallery wall (as featured in Real Simple) and here to see the home he shares with wife and fellow artist Elliott Puckette. I think his work would make a great gift, don’t you?

pop the champagne!

After months of hard work, we present to you the first issue of Matchbook Magazine! I feel like the luckiest girl in the world (or at least in Kansas City) to be part of such a fantastic publication. We're already hard at work on issue two (it'll be out in four short weeks - can you believe it?!). In the meantime, I hope you enjoy issue one as much as I do :) Feel free to reblog any and all photos above!

hugo guinness in real simple

My heart literally skipped a beat when I came across this gorgeous collage of Hugo Guinness artwork in the September 2010 issue of Real Simple! I often browse through his work on John Derian’s website—I love it all. Mr. Guinness’ admirers include the likes of style icon Rita Konig and Kate Spade New York (the company hangs his prints in their boutiques). The home of Hugo Guinness and his wife,  artist Elliott Puckette, is featured in Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens, People-- you can see some images here :)

I fell in love with the Hugo Guinness artwork hung in the newly-renovated 5th Avenue Kate Spade boutique as featured in the current issue of Lonny Magazine. Naturally, I wanted to find out more about the artist.

A quick google search revealed that the home of Hugo Guinness and his beautiful wife, Elliott Puckette, is featured in one of my all-time favorite books, Vogue Living: House, Gardens, People.

"'It's one of my favorite houses anywhere,' the filmmaker Wes Anderson tells me. 'I wanted to film scenes for The Royal Tenenbaums in it, but it is too narrow, so we re-created it a few blocks away. We used elliott's paintings and Hugo's prints and old metal garden furniture with the the paint chipping off, and a washed-out whiteness across the whole place. They both have perfect taste,' Anderson says..." - Daisy Garnett, Vogue Living: Houses Gardens People

Hugo's prints are available for purchase at exclusively at John Derion in New York City.
