grace kelly + selima optique

I had to do a double take when I saw these Selima Optique for J.Crew Andy sunglasses on the company’s website today. Are they not almost identical to the sunglasses Grace Kelly wore while aboard the U.S. Constitution en route to Monaco? Princess Grace is on the cover of the May issue of Vanity Fair, and these photos of her voyage were included with the article (which, by the way, was fantastic-- you can read it online here). If this isn’t proof that classic style is forever chic, then I don’t know what is!

jackie in spain

I was ecstatic this weekend when I found the above issue of Life featuring Jackie Kennedy on a trip to Spain in April, 1966. Even more so when I realized that the spread included pictures of she and Princess Grace! Apparently, the two did not get along so well. A caption in the article reads,"The Grimaldis, the official guests of honor at the Seville fair, had been conspicuously miffed by all the attention they were not getting, and matters reached a head at the ball-- in the castle of the Duke of Medinaceli-- when the Monaco couple were nearly bowled over by the guests' rushing to see the late-arriving Jackie.." I find this so interesting-- for some reason, I was previously under the impression that the two had a fine relationship. The article makes no note as to the reason for her trip, other than that it was "a week's holiday." I believe it was one of her first official outings since the death of JFK nearly two and a half years earlier. She looks great, don't you think?

want of the day

This is kind of cheating because I already purchased it (there are still four left!), but isn't this french poster for
The Country Girl fantastic? At only $15, I think it's a total steal (shipping was 2X more expensive than the actual item-- so maddening!). It's a reproduction, of course, but who's counting? I can't wait to get it in the mail!

chic women wear scarves

I was on the Hermés website yesterday afternoon (dreaming, of course) and stumbled across "Playtime With Your Scarf", their online picture booklet that explains how to tie your scarf in a multitude of ways. I've always been fascinated by women who wear scarves to cover their hair-- I think it looks so glamourous! I've never tried it before, but I think it's going to be my new spring look. Now I need to start hunting for some vintage scarves
