1944:
After critics had begun circulating a ridiculous false story about Fala, President Franklin D. Roosevelt's
beloved Scottish Terrier, Roosevelt defended his dog's honor. At a campaign dinner, the President said
that though he and his family had "suffered malicious falsehoods" in the past, he claimed
the right to "object to libelous statements about my dog" (which I absolutely love).
