Lady Mary would have loved the work of French painter Eva Gonzalès. Ms. Gonzalès, the daughter of a writer, was the only “formal” student of Édouard Manet and often sat as his model. Unfortunately, her career was cut short when she died during childbirth at the age of 34. What she was able to accomplish during her short life is quite amazing – I can only imagine the force she would have become in the art world had she lived just a few decades longer. I particularly love women artists – can you tell? :) Above, from top to bottom: Morning Awakening, Roses dans un verre, Secretly, Nounou avec enfant, La Toilette.
