chez oberto gili

Believe it or not, I discovered interior photographer Oberto Gili through Anthropologie. I was trolling their site (as usual) and saw Oberto’s new book for sale – I had to find out who this man was. A quick google search led me to this lovely tour of his West Village apartment on NYSD. I can’t say that I would want to adopt the entire space as my own, but I find inspiration in the details. Those beautiful steel shelves, a gift from Hamish Bowles, make me want to kick my penchant for ikea bookcases to the curb. I love Oberto's ability to effortlessly mix different patterns and textures and the fact that he’s OK with stacks and stacks of books and little knick knacks scattered about (so long as they’re arranged to please). Home Sweet Home is on my wish list, but I guess these photos will have to do for now. Which really isn’t all too bad... there’s so much to look it, I don’t think I’ll tire of it for awhile :)

P.S. Is it just me, or does his apartment have
the same feel as Ms. Chloe Sevigny's old pad..?

chloë sevigny + a wednesday soliloquy

Apartment hunting in Los Angeles is exhausting. The sole factor getting me through this process is that (hopefully) by the end, I will have a beautiful apartment to decorate. Which is where these photos of Chloë Sevigny by Terry Richardson come in. I’m not sure if my boyfriend (with whom I’ve been living with for almost a year now!) would go for pale pink walls in our new place, but he travels quite a bit and I could always paint while he’s away. (He’ll learn to love it :). But back to Chloë, I also love her mix of rose-colored walls with that great red printed couch + matching curtains. Pink and red is a terribly, terribly chic color combo. Just take a look at Miles Redd’s living room! I’ll be dreaming for the rest of the day of how to incorporate this scheme into my new place. Anywho, enough of my soliloquy. Have a wonderful Wednesday, dolls!

at home with... gucci westman

Who doesn’t love Gucci Westman? The celebrated makeup artist and global artistic director for Revlon was profiled years ago in the January 2007 issue of House & Garden (you know, the one with Chloë Sevigny on the cover?). Upon rediscovering it, I had to scan + post! It’s always fun to get a peek into creative’s homes, no? The little snippets that we see here - that floral wallpaper, the lace tablecloth... - is enough to make one think that her entire townhouse must be phenomenal! Hopefully one day, we’ll see it in its entirety in one of the glossies.

apartamento: chloë sevigny

Chloë Sevigny’s East Village apartment (first published in the January 2007 issue of House & Garden) is one of my all-time favorite spaces. So, you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that her apartment had been published a second time in Apartamento’s October 2009 issue. Albeit a bit after-the-fact, I couldn’t help but reblog these images (plus, it’s always fun to get a peek into the homes of the insanely stylish..!). When doing up the place, she and decorator David Cafiero were inspired by "that beaten-down WASP late-sixties look” made famous by Billy Baldwin. I think she does a fantastic job of bringing that look up to date + making it her own (can we talk about the tiger pillow in her Chintz-covered guest room?). If you’ll indulge me for one moment, I’d also like gush about her expansive collection of Herend figurines (see photo #7). It was rumored that she also collected them (it’s a crazy obsession of mine...), but I didn’t believe it until I saw a photo of the menagerie itself. Obsessed! I think we're destined to be friends :)

chloë sevigny's east village abode

I think Chloë Sevigny’s January 2007 cover for House & Garden is one of the most beautiful covers the magazine ever published. Can you believe that it was shot in her very own rose garden? The garden was included with the purchase of her East Village ground floor apartment. What a luxury! And the apartment’s interior? So feminine and cool. David Cafiero, the designer with whom Ms. Sevigny worked alongside to create this space, says they were inspired by the book, Billy Baldwin Decorates. "We liked that beaten-down WASP late-sixties look. Those Geraldine Page interiors," David tells House & Garden. My kind of people! I think my favorite piece in Chloë’s home is the huge P.F. Poole canvas hanging in the living room. "I first saw the painting at the downtown design shop Lost City Arts, years ago," Sevigny says. "It was way beyond my price range. I kept going back for three years and looking at it, trying to talk them into taking less. Finally, they slashed the price in half. I don’t know why, but I love it." In my humble opinion, that’s what creating a home is all about.. investing in pieces you love :)
