these french babies dress better than you do.

I found these photos years ago on a French website that is now defunct. I believe these were photos snapped at a Children’s film class where the little ones wrote, directed, filmed and starred in their own short. What caught my eye was how these babies were dressed: the velour smoking jacket, the striped shirts, the yellow boots! I die. I’ve got nearly two decades on these kids, but I’m taking notes.  Want to get the look? Find my favorite striped shirt here and my favorite rain boots here. My favorite black jeans are a pair of vintage bootcut Levi's found at a thrift store, but you can find a similar pair here (on sale for $54!).

chance presents picasso's stripes

I'm a sucker for striped tees, and Chance Co. is my go-to source. I have the classic red + white and navy + white editions of their cult-favorite boatneck, but I'm clamoring for their newest bold striped shirt. It was inspired by Picasso, for heaven's sake. I'd pair it with a vintage Levi's jean jacket (or vintage army green cargo jacket) and a big silk scarf. So chic! Can you tell I'm ready for fall? :)

stars + stripes

Pray tell: is there anything more iconic than stripes? (If conflicted, see Matchbook’s essay re: stripes in their sixth issue). After coming across the top photo of James Dean in a striped knit top, I decided to compose a roundup of my favorite retro celebrities wearing striped ensembles (save for Catherine Deneuve in that hat - the image was too cute to leave out!). While I think Jenna Lyons looks terribly chic when she pairs her marinière with, say, sequin harem pants, there is something v. alluring about about stripes worn simply (of course, any of the above icons would look earth-shattering in paper bags). How do you wear stripes? Who makes your favorite striped shirt? (Petit Bateau, Saint James, Chance..?) I'd love to know!
