signet rings

I’ve always wanted a little gold signet ring. Years ago in Mrs. Faschi's high school English class, I remember having a converstaion with Molly about her mom's gorgeous teeny gold initialed ring that she received long ago from her high school sweetheart. Post-discussion, my thoughts landed somewhere along the lines of, “OK, if Annie (Molly & Sally’s ridiculously chic mother) has one, then they must be cool!” (I was - and still am - a huge nerd).

But honestly speaking, some of the coolest ladies I know wear them. My own grandmother, Dianne, has a healthy-sized gold rendition that never leaves her index finger. Princess Di was often photographed wearing one (though I couldn't tell if hers featured a crest or her initials). And more recently, my friend Katie has been sporting a beautiful gold number purchased through Mark & Graham (find it here!).

I’d like to have a whisper of one to wear on my pinky, and I’m fairly certain that Mark and Graham’s petite signet would do the trick. I find the idea of heirloom jewelry - the notion that this might be something I could pass onto my grandchildren - terribly romantic... that being said, I still love my quirky Forever 21 pieces like nobody's business :)

those sheets.

This morning, my incredibly stylish friend Natalie forwarded me Todd Selby's newsletter along with a simple caption: "I suspect you've seen this?!" (she knows me so well!). The "this" in question was Mr. Selby's shoot with Rita Konig at her former Manhattan digs, also known as The Most Beautiful Apartment in the World. Rita's D. Porthault sheets have long been on my dream wish list... I'm a bedding nut, and - try as I might - can't seem to find another pattern that tops the French line's Coeurs Pink (which was originally designed for the Duke + Duchess of Windsor, don't you know :). Ooh, my expensive taste will be the end of me!

switch it up

I’m a details person (though as my mom says, I definitely don’t look it! Ha). By nature, I’m immediately drawn to the little eccentricities about a person or home that might perhaps go unnoticed by others. This, of course, is why I care so much about seemingly silly things like lightswitches. Are unique light switch covers necessary? Hardly. But they are quirky and fun. Above are two that I can't get out of my head... I think I need both of them :) Rose decoupage switch plate cover by John Derian (available next month) and tin switch plate cover found via my favorite pinner, Ms. Blythe Candace.

remembering audrey

Everywhere I turn, people are abuzz about Vanity Fair’s beautiful May cover starring a doe-eyed Audrey Hepburn. The fanfare reminds me of the May 2003 issue of Town & Country, which also featured an interview with one of Ms. Hepburn’s sons and a forensic look at her elegant style. I quite enjoyed reviewing the piece again, and am especially fond of the bulleted “Did You Know” facts. I had forgotten that Audrey was discovered by Colette at Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, which is kind of fun to think about (…says the history nerd). Anywho, the entire article in question can be found here. I hope it’s enough to hold you over ‘til you can get your hands on the newest Vanity Fair : )
