marc jacobs spring/summer 2011: the film

I'm loving the short film Kalvin Lazarte directed in celebration of Marc Jacobs' spring/summer '11 collection. It's perfect! After watching, I’m dying to round up my closest girlfriends for a weekend getaway at The James (where this lovely film was shot). Though the cinematography is beautiful, I think the music the film is set to makes it - “Ring Ring” by Sleigh Bells is now my personal anthem of summer ’11. Anyway, bravo to the Marc Jacobs team. Most fashion films tend to be a bit cheesy (for lack of a better word)... MJ killed it.

(p.s.! I highly recommend that you check out Kalvan Lazare's vimeo page - he's super talented :)

deyrolle paris

While browsing flickr last night, I came across these wonderful photos of Deyrolle, the famous Parisian taxidermy boutique known for their wild curiosities. The blogger behind The Snail and the Cyclops took the time to scan them in from a 1985 issue of World of Interiors (my hero!). Sadly, Deyrolle suffered a devastating fire in February 2008 that eliminated 90% of its product - the New York Times described the incident as if “a dagger had been plunged into the heart of Paris.” Curators and Deyrolle supporters from around the world - including Christie’s and Hermès - rallied to raise money to bring the boutique back to life (no pun intended). My sister is taking a trip to Paris this Summer with my grandmother - I'll have to send them to the shop to investigate the recovery. If you've visited Deyrolle since the fire, please comment! I'd love to hear what you have to say.

want of the day

Here’s what I need in my closet: Miu Miu’s “silk volant detail cocktail dress.” Isn’t it wonderful? It’d be perfect for a State Dinner at the White House or an evening at The Rainbow Room (that is, were it still open). I imagine that if Grace Kelly were a starlet today, she’d be all over this. As always, if anyone would like to donate this to me, I won’t protest :)

an argument for looking at books instead of reading them

In 2006, Andy Spade curated the above installation celebrating beautiful book covers, posters and post cards for his beloved handbag company. After traveling to Japan, the installation, aptly titled, “An Argument for Looking at Books Instead of Reading Them,” ended at Colette (the famous French department store that I so longingly want to visit!). Of the exhibit, Colette noted, “...Andy is as impressed with striking, unusual book jackets as he is with quality literature. From art exhibition catalogs found in second-hand bins to rare first edition titles, the book collection has been built to surround Kate Spade product and give dimension to the company’s aesthetic.” I would just die to have some of these pieces hanging on my wall... wouldn’t you?!

the making of miss dior cherie

I'll admit it - I wasn't the biggest fan of Sofia Coppola's most recent Miss Dior Cherie commercial starring Natalie Portman (though I love them both!). That being said, the behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot is stunning. It was made into a short film that you simply must watch - trust. To be honest, it's what I imagined the Natalie Porman "Dior" commercial to be before it's release! What do you think, dahlings?
