alice waters + apartamento

When I picked up the newest issue of Apartamento today, I was thrilled to see that the magazine included an interview with Alice Waters (of Chez Panisse + The Edible Schoolyard Project fame). The article, of course, is wonderful, but it’s really the accompanying illustrations that caught my attention. They’re by Spanish artist Jordi Labanda (who has an eye for color like you wouldn’t believe). I bought my copy at this goldmine of an independent bookstore called Ooga Booga, located in LA’s Chinatown. So there I was, browsing the Internet + minding my own business… and then I saw it: Issa’s flared wool princess coat. Upon first sight, I literally started heaving. It’s beautiful! The British label has been on my radar ever since Princess Catherine wore that gorgeous sapphire dress for her first royal press conference. I can totally see her wearing this stunning piece on a State visit to somewhere fabulous. As for myself? While LA is warm during the daylight hours (it was 70 degrees today!), temperatures drop fast once the sun sets. To only be able to wear this coat in the dark breaks my heart, but I’ll take what I can get :)

On October 15 and 16, the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group opened the doors of twenty-five of their legendary European businesses for special tours to the public. To drum up buzz for the event, the group took a few photos inside Maison Givenchy to give potential tour-goers a taste of what was to come. The results are incredible! Oh, what I would have given to promenade through the workshop in person. For those of us who were unable to attend (my private jet was in the shop - what's your excuse? :), you can read a first-person account of the tour here.

Without discussing the “whys” of Jenna Lyon’s recent (and very public) split with husband Vincent Mazeau, can we all take a moment to enjoy these last photos of their shared Brooklyn townhouse? The space is currently listed by Sotheby’s for a cool 3.75 million. But to live in a home once inhabited by the already-legendary president of J.Crew? I’d say it’s a steal! One can only wonder where Ms. Lyons will find herself next (…and if it will be published soon). I feel bittersweet about posting these photos - divorce, in any case, is awful. I can only hope that it brings the couple peace and happiness. I'm sure my sweet readers feel the same :)
